StarBand Communications recently announced
its two-way, high-speed satellite Internet service. DISH Network
announced that it will also offer StarBand Internet service
through over 2,000 select DISH Network retailers nationwide.
The
StarBand service will be offered in conjunction with DISH
Network satellite television programming from a new, single
dish antenna. The new dish is oval shaped and about 18" in
width. I understand that a special price of $99.99 per month
will be available for customers who subscribe to StarBand
service and America's Top 150 programming package. I have
played with a beta version of the Dish system and must say
it was a solid performer.
There are several other companies coming out with similar
systems in the next several months so it might be smart to
wait and see what shakes out before jumping on the Dish system.
For rural users like myself (it's a "powder day" here in the
mountains of northern New Mexico!) this new capability is
just what the coach ordered!
For more information about StarBand Internet service visit
www.starband.com. The site seems to be in a "beta mode" itself
so if you want additional information you might also try calling
800-333-DISH. I haven't yet heard about international availability
but I would presume it's around the corner as well. |
